The residence of the Vestal Virgins, located behind the circular Temple of Vesta at the eastern edge of the Roman Forum. The complex includes a large central courtyard (atrium) surrounded by a two-story colonnade, with statues of senior Vestals lining the court. The Vestals were among the most powerful women in Rome, enjoying privileges denied to other women.
