Basilica Aemilia Self-researched

Location: Roman Forum, Rome
Date: 179 BC (original); 34 BC (rebuilt by Paullus Aemilius Lepidus)

A civil basilica on the northeast side of the Roman Forum, described by Pliny as one of the most beautiful buildings in Rome. Used for business and banking. Coins melted into the floor during the Sack of Rome (410) by Alaric are still visible. A sculptural frieze depicting scenes from early Roman history survives and is displayed in the Antiquarium of the Forum.
