A heroically-scaled statue depicting Hercules at rest, leaning on his gnarled club draped with the Nemean lion's skin, holding the golden apples of the Hesperides behind his back. One of the most famous sculptures of antiquity, it has fixed the image of the mythic hero in European imagination. Recovered from the frigidarium of the Baths in 1546.
