Column of Phocas Self-researched

A Roman monumental column, the last monument erected in the Roman Forum. Built when Rome was part of the Eastern Roman Empire after its reconquest from the Ostrogoths. The column was dedicated to the Byzantine Emperor Phocas by the exarch Smaragdus, possibly in gratitude for Phocas's gift of the Pantheon to Pope Boniface IV.
