Italian Renaissance sculptor and architect, best known for his works around the Piazza San Marco in Venice. Andrea Palladio considered his Biblioteca Marciana the best building erected since antiquity. His Mars and Neptune statues guard the Giants' Staircase at the Doge's Palace.

Two colossal statues guarding the Giants' Staircase (Scala dei Giganti). Mars represents Venice's power by land, Neptune her power by sea. The statues flank the staircase where doges were crowned.
Baptistery Font Self-researched
A bronze baptismal font designed by Jacopo Sansovino, positioned beneath the central dome of the baptistery. The font is surmounted by the mosaic dome depicting the mission of the Apostles. Sansovino served as Proto (chief architect) of St Mark's from 1529.
