Giorgio Barbarelli da Castelfranco, known as Giorgione, was a Venetian painter of the High Renaissance known for the elusive poetic quality of his work. Only about six surviving paintings are firmly attributed to him, making him one of the most mysterious figures in European art.

A mysterious Renaissance painting originally commissioned by Venetian noble Gabriele Vendramin. Depicts a soldier and a nursing woman in a lush landscape with a city threatened by a storm. Despite considerable scholarly discussion, the meaning remains elusive. Considered by some the first true landscape in Western art.
