Dante Before the City of Florence Self-researched
Also known as "La Divina Commedia illumina Firenze" (The Divine Comedy Illuminates Florence), this painting shows Dante holding a copy of the Divine Comedy, with Mount Purgatory and the city of Florence behind him. The work honors Dante Alighieri, Florence's greatest poet, who was exiled from the city in 1302.
